Nine more sleeps to go until we race around the Rock.&nbsp; Salt Spring Island Rowing Club is excited to welcome you to 2024 Race Around the Rock.
Crew Race Plan Form
For safety reasons, we must have an overview of athletes rowing each leg.&nbsp; An Athlete change form has been attached to this email please submit Electronically no later than Thursday August 22nd at 5 pm. &nbsp;&nbsp;
Instructions to fill out Athlete Change form.&nbsp; To be Completed by Thursday August 22nd at 5:00 pm

 <li>Please make a copy and place team name when sharing back with&nbsp;ssirowing@gmail.com.</li>
 <li>Place the starting crew in the Fulford START row.&nbsp;If a crew is racing as a single race rather than as a relay, they need only complete the Fulford (START) column. Otherwise, each team should have the complete crew entered in each leg regardless of whether there has been a change or not. (See Example)</li>

We ask you to participate in our experiment with STRAVA to track the race.&nbsp; You need to have a STRAVA account and turn on your BEACON. See link for more details.&nbsp; A power bank/portable battery will be required to ensure your smart phone has power for the whole race. The contact information will shared on Saturday at the BBQ.

Things you need to know.

 <li>&nbsp;There is a&nbsp;MANDATORY&nbsp;Crew/Umpire Meeting/BBQ for all participants that will be held on Saturday August 24th in Drummond Park, Fulford Harbour.&nbsp;</li>

Race Day

 <li>Race Start time and exact location will be determined by Chief Umpire and announced at BBQ.&nbsp;</li>
 <li>The race will be going clockwise in 2024.&nbsp; You will leave Fulford Harbour and head to Burgoyne Bay and you are on the trek to Fulford.&nbsp;</li>

Please be aware ferries are always busy in the summer but with the addition of staff shortages some ferries have been cancelled as of late.&nbsp;Check BC Ferries Service Notices for Vancouver Island – Southern Gulf Islands and schedule.<a href="https://www.bcferries.com/current-conditions/service-notices" style="color:#96607d; text-decoration:underline">https://www.bcferries.com/current-conditions/service-notices</a>. We recommend you be early for the ferries to ensure boarding.&nbsp;

Additional Race Details
Boat Markings
Each boat must display its boat number on both sides of the bow, The individual numbers and/or letters making up the boat number on the boat shall each be a minimum of 20 cm high and shall be in contrasting colour to the background. Electrical tape will not pass inspection. Contact&nbsp;<a href="mailto:ssirowing@gmail.com" style="color:#96607d; text-decoration:underline">ssirowing@gmail.com</a>&nbsp;if you need support.

Equipment for Boat
Each boat is required to provide and carry:
<ul>
 <li>Bailing bucket</li>
 <li>Life jackets (one for each person in the largest rowing shell)&nbsp;</li>
 <li>Whistle</li>
 <li>Tow-line 15 m in length</li>
 <li>Marine VHF hand-held radio</li>
 <li>Distress flare&nbsp;(provided by the race organization)</li>
 <li>Equipment bag (provided by the race organization)</li>
</ul>

Support teams
There will be a map provided on Saturday August 24th as well as directions to help your support team drive athletes around the island.&nbsp; All check points by land will be visibly marked.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bulletin #2 will have specific information for support drivers.&nbsp;

Communication&nbsp;
All communication with the LOC will be done through a Whats App group.&nbsp; Please have all athletes and support drivers join the group to ensure no one misses any announcements.&nbsp;&nbsp;
