Kraken Erg: Brentwood Indoor Regatta

The Kraken Erg: Brentwood Indoor Regatta will replace the Monster Erg as the South Vancouver Island indoor rowing event.  UVic has decided to no longer host the Monster Erg.  Thank you UVic for the 35+ years of hosting an amazing event.  

Event Details:

  • The first race will start at 9AM
  • The facility and registration desk will open at 8AM

Weigh-In Details:

  • Lightweight Men = 75kgs
  • Lightweight Women = 65kgs
  • The test scale will be available at 8AM
  • The official weigh-in area will open 2 hours before the first scheduled LTW event

*Lightweight rowers shall be weighed wearing their racing uniform on tested scales not less than one (1) hour and not more than two (2) hours before their first lightweight race.  Each athlete will have one attempt at weighing in.  Failure to weigh-in will result in being moved to the Open category’s results.

**IMPORTANT:  It is highly recommended that Jr. B lightweight athletes DO NOT cut weight.  Please ensure your athletes are healthy, happy and naturally lightweight at this age.  

 

Junior Rowing Age Groups:  Junior A: U19  |  Junior B: U17   |  Junior C: U15 

Junior C | U15

  • Age 14 and under to December 31 2023 inclusive.  If you are turning 15 in 2023 you must row Junior B

Junior B | U17

  • Age 16 and under to December 31 2023 inclusive.  If you are turning 17 in 2023 you must row Junior A

Junior A | U19

  • Age 18 and under to December 31 2023 inclusive.  If you are turning 19 in 2023 you must row Senior B

Senior B | U23

  • Age 22 and under to December 31 2023 inclusive.  If you are turning 23 in 2023 you must row Senior

Senior

  • Open to all ages.  Any athlete may compete in this event. Winning this event precludes winning in any other event.

Novice

  • A athlete can compete as a novice as long as they started rowing in the current academic year.  Athletes who started rowing before the 2022 school year (i.e. August 2022) are not considered Novice for the 2023 Kraken Erg.  

Para Races

  • Refer to the Adaptive Rowing Classifications used by Rowing Canada.

Coxswain

  • Racing / training experience limited to the role of coxswain.  There are no age or weight restrictions.

Masters rowing age groups

  • The age of a rower in a masters rowing event shall be that which he/she attains on the day of the event.

Masters rowing events shall be held in the following crew age categories:

  • A. Minimum age: 27 years
  • B. Average age: 36 years or more
  • C. Average age: 43 years or more
  • D. Average age: 50 years or more
  • E. Average age: 55 years or more
  • F. Average age: 60 years or more
  • G. Average age: 65 years or more
  • H. Average age: 70 years or more
  • I. Average age: 75 years or more
  • J. Average age: 80 years or more
  • K. Average age: 85 years or more

 

Concept 2 Infrastructure:

  • There will be 24 new C2 test machines
  • There will be 40 used C2 warm-up and cool-down machines
  • There will be 15 spin bikes for warm-up and cool-down 

Race Information:

  • The Kraken Erg wants to provide a race for everyone - please contact organizers if we have missed you
  • Awards will be given out in events with 6 or more competitors, and to event winners only
  • Events with low registration numbers will be combined, whenever sensible, but awards will be given out based on original Event List
  • Events with more than 24 entries will run multiple waves, with the overall winner being presented with an award

Brentwood Brunch:

  • The Brentwood Brunch runs from 10-12 and tickets can be purchased ahead of time for an additional cost of $20
  • A limited number of tickets will be for sale the morning of the event
