There will be a new perpetual trophy added this year to honor the legacy of rowing legend Bill Kalenius. Bill passed away on September 23 after a six-year battle with colon cancer. To honor Bill's primary rowing passion, the Bill Kalenius Bowl will be awarded to the fastest double at the regatta.
For the 2009 Head of the Dog, the race will be held on Saturday, October 3. The Portland Row for the Cure will be on Sunday, October 4, offering the possibility of a two-fer weekend of head racing in Portland.
The HOT Dog venue will be Oaks Park, just downstream from Sellwood Riverfront Park, where the regatta is often based. There's lots of room for boat trailers at Oaks Park. Arrangements for trailer parking at the Portland Boathouse can also be made by contacting Pete Edwards at [email protected]. The row from the Portland Boathouse to the start of The Dog is a good warmup distance.
The Mixed 2x will be the last event in the 9:00 wave. This means you have to check the schedule and choose only one event in the first wave. The schedule flip flops each year so alternate groups suffer.
