This is the 22nd running of the Head of the Dog.  Started in 1987 when all three pairs showed up in costume, the tradition lives on.  It's the best and perhaps only costume regatta in the country, or at least in Portland.  (Costumes are strongly encouraged, but not required).

Perpetual trophies are awarded to the fastest Men's 1x, Women's 1x, and K1, and for The Spirit of the Dog.  The highly coveted Best of Breed award goes to the best costume worn during the race.  Notable past winners include the v-p debaters Biden and Palin, the French maids Tiffany and Steffanie, Big Bo Peep and her dog, and Schlenker & Devine Plumbing.
