Mark your calendars for October 9, 2010 for the Head of the James in Richmond. This is a 3 mile race rowing with the current (usually very little current unless we have several days of rain). It is also a 3 mile row up to the starting gates. The race is at Robious Landing Park, just off the Rt. 288 and Robious Road (Huguenot Trail Rd) exit and directly behind James River High School.   This is a combined race sponsored by James River High School and the Virginia Boat Club. All masters and juniors are welcomed. Here are some points of interest:

New custom design medal (pictured above) will be awarded to first place finishers with ribbons going to second and third.

All registrations will be through Regatta Central (www.regattacentral.com) and MUST be done by the registration deadline of Oct. 5th Midnight.  No late registrations will be accepted. We will have a small recovery dock that can be used by 4s or smaller boats. However, docks space is tight and entries may be limited to the first 120 boats.Quick launch and recovery times are a requirement.

Coaches & coxes meeting at 0830.Start launching boats at 0850.First boats to go off at 0930.  We anticipate sending boats off every 30 seconds.

Order of events will be singles (M&W), 4+s (M, W, Mixed), 2x (M, W, Mixed), and 8+s (M, W, Mixed). Faster boats will go first followed by novice boats.Due to the time to row to the start and the time to race, hot seating will not be permitted.

Bow numbers & shirt numbers will be provided.

We expect this race to be a great learning experience for most junior rowers and many novice master rowers, as most have never been in a head race before. Safety and equipment will be respected at all times.

The race will be officiated by US Rowing referees.Waivers can be filled out on line or brought to the race.
