Head of the James

  • Hosted By: Virginia Boat Club, James River Rowers
  • 2016 Registered Regatta
This is the fifth annual Head of James Regatta. The Virginia Boat Club traces its roots to the late 19th Century. The modern club was reorganized in 1986. Today, rowing on the James continues with The Virginia Boat Club rowing at two locations on the James.

The boathouse downtown Richmond is utilized by Virginia Boat Club Masters and Virginia Commonwealth University Crew Club.

Through a cooperative, public/private effort between the County of Chesterfield and the Virginia Boat Club, the Virginia Boat Club manages the Robious Landing Boathouse and dock for the benefit of the rowing community.  Currently, the Virginia Boat Club Masters, James River High School, River City Crew, and the University of Richmond, row from this facility.  Robious Landing Park is located at 3800 James River Road (adjacent to James River High School).  The VBC is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to amateur rowing.
