  • Hosted By: Gorge Narrows Rowing Club
  • Sanctioned by RCA & BC (2024)

The general launch/landing site for all races is Esquimalt Gorge Park, at 1070 Tillicum Rd, Victoria BCSpecific pre-arranged clubs will be launching from the Gorge narrows Rowing Club dock.

Esquimalt Gorge Park is a wet launch. There are clam beds, so wear water shoes.

Head of the Gorge (both mornings), starts near Victoria's historic Old Town, runs north under three bridges, shoots through the rushing waters of Tillicum Narrows, and finishes near Esquimalt Park,  Most crews wear costumes for the race, and there are prizes for best costumes.

Tail of the Gorge (both afternoons), runs the same course in reverse, shooting the rapids in the other direction.

For both Head and Tail, the Angel of the Narrows will guide your boat to either the Start (before racing Head) or to the landing site (after racing Tail).

Your crew must be capable of following the Angel's directions by side & by seat number. Here's a video that shows how adventurous it can be, and what type of directions the Angel gives crews   Angel guiding crews through the Narrows video
