8/2 First, thank you all for planning to come to our "little" regatta.
Our number of athletes and number of clubs has grown substantially since last year, nearly doubling. We anticipated great growth, especially after IDR and DSM were cancelled, but nonetheless, this is still a lot. I am going to ask you in advance to be patient and bear with us on raceday.
Our biggest concern is parking. We have not arranged to close Kelly Drive. We are going to ask that only trailers and cars carrying boats park in the Canoe Club lot. We will direct cars elsewhere. We will be sending out detailed instructions in advance. We put a priest in charge of parking, so we've covered the prayer angle.
As usual, at registration, we will check that you have your waivers in, and give you your shirts and lunch tickets. There is a chance that we will run out of shirts before you all get them. If this happens, we will take down your names and addresses and send them to you later. You will not be stiffed.
Be aware also that there will be more boat traffic than usual, especially around the Canoe Club. Please pay attention to the dockmasters who will guide you. We will have some "old salts" from the Corps and the Navy down there. Please read the bulletin for the traffic pattern, and listen to the refs on the water.
We will have a first draft schedule up Thursday. Look for updates after that. Final heat sheets will be available at registration Saturday.
We do our best to accomodate requests regarding hotseating etc. We try to be a rower's regatta. Let us know if you need help in having enough time. We can hold up the start of a race if necessary. We will not switch the order of events, since that could negatively affect other rowers, but we can move an individual boat to a different heat if need be.
Finally, in order to keep the day from getting too insanely long, we may switch from the advertised seven minute centers to six minute centers. Hopefully, this will not create problems for you. If it does, see above paragraph.
8/1 Regattashots will not be able to take picutres as we expected. However, Row2K will be taking pictures that you will be able to purchase through their website. We also will try to take some pictures to put on the Fairmount website.
6/29 Tough year for regattas. Independence Day also cancelled.
>>Diamond States has been cancelled. Come here for your best East Coast tuneup before FISA Worlds!
>>Once again, Fairmount Rowing Association brings you the Quaker City Masters Regatta.
- This year's date is August 5. For once, this does not conflict with any other regattas. Diamond State is 2 weeks before, Capital Sprints one week before, Can. Henley one week after, and Masters Nationals 5 days after. FISA Worlds are one month after. This is a great tuneup.
- Entry fee lowered to $30 per person. This includes lunch, a shirt, a party afterward, and as many races as you want to enter. Are we kidding?!? NO.
- Lots of lightweight events.
- Racing in Philly virtually guarantees good competition.
- Balloons, clowns, and rides for the kids! (OK, not really, I made that up).
