Hot Head Regatta

  • Hosted By: Tempe Town Lake Rowing
  • 2016 Registered Regatta

The Hot Head Regatta is the oldest running head-style rowing race in the state of Arizona. In fact it is the only head-style race in the state of Arizona. The Town Lake Regatta Committee is working hard to make the 6th annual the best ever. This year the regatta is on the same day as the Head of the Charles, to allow southwestern rowing programs a viable alternative to the Chuck. The Hot Head historically attracts crews from Southern California, Utah, Colorado, Texas and even Illinois.

The event is contested on Tempe Town Lake, which is a man-made lake that sits on the north side of Tempe, AZ. The course is a three mile long oval, with a 180 degree turn just past the half way point. There are 6 bridges the crews will race through, testing even the most experienced coxswains.

There are events for all levels of racers; from Novice to Open and from Junior to Master. There will be races in all boat types from 1x to 8+. In addition the schedule is set up so you can race twice, if your fitness level is up to the task.

The local community is really behind the regatta. The Tempe Convention and Visitor Bureau has set up a terrific hotel package with the Country Inn and Suites, assuring the regatta will be easy on the teams' budget. There are boats available for out of town teams and an opportunity to row the course on Friday, if you arrive early.

We hope to see you in Tempe, AZ on Saturday, October 20 for the Hot Head Regatta.
