Classifications
Youth: A Youth is a Competitor who in the current calendar year does not attain the age of 19, or who is and has been continuously enrolled in secondary school as a full-time student seeking a diploma. A Competitor thus ceases to be a Youth after December 31 of the year of his or her 18th birthday, or the year in which he or she completes the 12th grade of secondary school, having been a full-time student, whichever is later. (The Rules of Racing 2015, Rule 4-104.1(c))
Collegiate: A Collegiate Rower is a competitor who is currently enrolled in a college or university and participating in that school’s club or varsity rowing program.
Lightweights: (The Rules of Racing 2015, Rule 4-104.3) A Lightweight Crew is one that complies with the requirements below. An Open Event is one that is not a Lightweight Event.
(a) Men:
(2) A Youth men’s Lightweight Crew, including a single Scull (1x), shall have no Rower who weighs more than 150 lbs.
(b) Women:
(1) A women’s Lightweight Crew, including single Scull (1x), shall have no Rower who weighs more than 130 lbs.
Lightweight Rowers who qualified for the John Hunter Regatta on the day preceding the Lanier Sprints Regatta will not be required to weigh in again.
Master: A Master is a Competitor who has attained or will attain the age of 21 during the current calendar year. A Competitor’s age is determined as of December 31 of the current calendar year, rounded down to the nearest whole number. A Competitor thus becomes a Master on January 1 of the year of his or her 21st birthday. A Masters Crew shall be comprised exclusively of Masters Rowers, but the Coxswain need not be a Master. (The Rules of Racing 2015, Rule 4-104.1 (d))
Handicap times will be determined according to the USRowing handicap chart (The Rules of Racing 2015, pg 31) and will be based on the average age of rowers in the boat. All line-up changes made after the close of registration will need to be reported to the regatta registrar to maintain accurate average ages.
Mixed: A crew competing in a mixed Event must be 50% male and 50% female, not including the Coxswain. (The Rules of Racing 2015, Rule 4-103 (g))
If any boat is being scratched from an event after the close of registration, Control Commission should be notified at least one hour before that event’s posted starting time. There will be no refunds for scratches.
Control Commission, Safety & Docks
The Dock Master has absolute authority over the dock area. Shells will be inspected for quick-release shoe retainers, bow balls and coxswains opening.
Equipment Adjustments
All equipment adjustments must be made in the storage area before launching.
Bow Numbers
Please provide your own bow numbers. Bow numbers will be available for rent by LLRC at Control Commission for $5.00 per number.
Launch and Return
All boats will Launch and Return at the docks on the Boathouse side of the venue.
Hot Seating
Hot Seating crews will use the dock at the boat ramp on the Tower side of the venue.
Getting to the Start Line
It is the coxswain’s responsibility to get the crew to the starting line on time. On time is defined as 5 minutes before posted event time. Boats warming up should proceed up river and follow the southeast side shoreline, furthest from the Finish Tower.
Protest Procedure
The protesting boat’s coxswain must announce initial protests to the racing officials while the boat is still on the water.
A formal protest must be filed in writing within one hour after the crew lands. It may be filed with the Chief Referee.
A $25.00 fee payable to Lake Lanier Rowing club must accompany the formal protest. (The fee will be refunded if the protest is successful.)
The formal protest will be referred to the Chief Referee. The Chief Referee will consider each protest as time allows.
Pending a decision regarding the protest, no results will be posted for the event under protest.
All decisions regarding protests will be completed within one hour of the last race of the day.
Race Rules
US Rowing The Rules of Racing 2015 will be followed except as noted at the coaches and coxswains meeting.
Practice
The course is open for practice on Friday, March 27 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. For safety purposes, no boats will be allowed to launch before 2:00 PM or after 5:30 PM. All crews must be off the water by 6:30 PM. The course will be closed for practices Saturday, March 28 for the John Hunter Regatta.
During these scheduled practice times, please row up to the start in lanes 1-3 (southeast side of the course) and down the course in lanes 5-7. Lane 4 will be left open as a buffer.
