The Head of the Kanawha Regatta
This is a USRowing Registered Regatta. Each team must be registered as an organizational member of USRowing. Unaffiliated scullers must be individual members of USRowing.
USRowing rules are in force and USRowing officials are in place.
Open events are for any rowers except Junior, High School or Youth rowers (as defined in the USRowing Rules of Racing.
Collegiate events are for rowers currently registered in a curriculum of study leading toward a degree and are deemed eligible to compete by their individual schools eligibility requirements.
Junior events are for rowers currently registered as junior, youth, or scholastic AND meet the definition as prescribed in the USRowing Rules of Rowing.
Masters events are for rowers that fit the AA-J catagories as defined in the USRowing Rules of Rowing. USRowing Handicaps will be utilized with a multiplier of 5 (course is 5K).
The Collegiate/Open Lightweight events are to match the definitions above and meet the definition of lightweight as defined in the USRowing Rules of Rowing.
Novice events are for rowers in their first year of beginning rowing. Collegiate Novices are in their first year of collegiate rowing.
Coxswains will NOT be weighed.
Doubling of equipment and rowers/coxswains is permitted provided such "hotseating" does not require any adjustment to the schedule or delay racing.
Penalties: Late to start 20 sec.
Starting out of order 10 sec.
Failure of a crew to yield the right of way of a crew summoned to the start 10 sec.
Failure to yield 30 sec. A crew being passed is to move to port and allow the passing boat the shorter course. (crews that row off the course are penalizing themselves with more distance)
Crossing the Start line WITHOUT BOW NUMBER 60 sec.
