Prairie Beach Sprints

  • Hosted By: Manitoba Rowing Association
  • Sanctioned by RCA & MB (2024)

Gimli, Manitoba and this beach sprint event takes place on the traditional lands and waterways of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples as well as the homeland of the Metis Nation. We respect the treaties made here and are grateful to work, live, and play on this land.

The Manitoba Rowing Association is navigating new waters and excited to host the Prairie Beach Sprint events in partnership with our clubs.  The event will take place in Gimli Manitoba on the “North Beach”, which is the area located North of the Gimli Beach Patrol station (as listed on Google Maps).  We will have 250m of slalom rowing race distance in the water, and the races will begin and end with a 20m run on the beach.  We will offer three race options, with no weight restrictions or age categories.  Each event will start as a time trial, and will then run as a bracket system, so the winner of the dual race moves on.  If entries allow, we will run the Group B races, if not, we will only run the Group A races, from the World Rowing Beach Sprints progression system.    Entries and payment of fees will be through Regatta Central in advance.  Please consider making the trip to Gimli as we are excited to race on new waters with this new format and event.

Entry Fees: $25 on Regatta Central plus GST and seat fee per event.

Registration: Regatta Central registrations - Opens May 15 and Closes June 20

Late entries/Day of Entries – will be accepted, for $30.

Scratches will be accepted by emailing the Regatta Registrar, Allison Gervais, at [email protected] until June 19th.  After that date, refunds will not be issued.

There will be a meeting for all participants and coaches at 9:30am on Saturday, June 22nd on the beach at control commission.

Boat sharing will take place.  We have two coastal doubles and two singles - all races will take place in those four boats.  Water shoes are recommended for racing as there are some small rocks in the water.  We have shoes for those interested.

Racing:

There will be FIVE events – Men 2x, Women 2x, Mixed 2x, and Men 1x, Women 1x.

There will be max 24 entries per event.

We will have two lanes for racing.   We will start each event with a time trial, one at a time.  After that, it will be duel races, so the winner will advance in the bracket.

We will run the event in 7 minute centers, so the current racers will be on the course, with the next two teams ready in the start area.

The course will be a 20m run to the water, and 250m out and back, with the final 20m beach run.

The course will be slalom out around three buoys and straight back.

All events are open events with no age or weight classes.

A race will not be held for late arriving teams.  The other team will race against an empty lane and will be deemed the winner of the duel upon completion of that race.

The top 3 crews in each category will be announced!

We will have a lunch break as close to Noon as race schedule allows.

Lunch is not provided for participants, but will be provided for the volunteers.  For anyone interested, there is a “snack shack” open close by, shown on the map.
