Park logistics for participants and spectators

Where can I find race results?  - The timing and results for OMS are being done by RONIN and will be available shortly after each event online <link to be provided>

Where do I park?  There are several lots within park.  Parking is tight at Sandy Run so please carpool as much as possible.   See the site maps under the Venue tab.
FREE parking for car-toppers/shell carriers.
All vehicles $10.  Cash only, exact change is much appreciated.

There is no parking allowed on Van Thompson Rd.   This is an emergency access issue.

Where can I view the races? -  The Finish line is at the grandstands. For spectators, the shortest trail to the grandstands starts from Lot C.  It’s an approximately 15 minute walk to the grandstand on the trail with a few steep inclines and exposed tree roots.  There is also a trail from the lower boathouse to the grandstand.

Is there a shuttle to the grandstand? – No, there is no shuttle available to the grandstand for this event.

Grandstand facilities - There are rest rooms but no drinking water source at the grandstands.

Will there be food and drinks for sale? - There will be no food or drink for sale at the race this year, so please pack what you need for the day.

Can I bring my dog on race day?  No, per park regulations pets are not allowed on race days.

Race Participants

Final race sheet - See the final race sheet under the Heat Sheet/Draw tab.

Bow numbers - Programs are expected to supply their own bow numbers.

Launching - Vehicles are not allowed to drive equipment down the hill, shells must be carried down by crews/individuals.  The short dock is the primary launch dock, the long dock (base of the hill) is the primary recovery dock. Dockmasters will direct you as needed for traffic flow.

Start arrival - You need to plan to be in the area of the start platform 5 minutes before your scheduled start time.  Races are on 6 minute spacing, we cannot hold your race if you are late.

From the launch dock is approximately 2000 meters to the finish line, then another 1250 meters to row past the start platform to get into your arrival position.   You have other crews rowing to the start also.  Plan your launch timing accordingly.

Be sure your crews know how to back into a solid platform.  A starting platform official will be there to assist.

Traffic Pattern - Be sure to follow the OMS Race Day Traffic Pattern, it is very different from the normal Sandy Run practice flow. See the traffic pattern here:   https://www.rowobc.org/regattas-camps/oms

We use the race day traffic pattern to allow faster and safer hot docking at the finish line area.

Hot docking - If you have a tight "turn-around" between events, you are encouraged to

a) pre-position equipment at the bottom of the "hill" for a quick "grab and go" or

b) pre-position crews at the grandstand area docks at the finish line area.

Medals – All race events are finals with one winner. To optimize schedule and lane usage, multiple events with low entries may be run on the course concurrently (e.g. Event x with 2 entries and Event y with 2 entries) but will be ranked and awarded separately.

OMS has always tried to avoid handicapping events and will continue to group Masters entries in a way to minimize it. We will not group Junior or Open events with Masters. We may separate younger and older Masters into separate races to avoid large handicap spreads. All Masters races will have one winner even if there are multiple age groups in the race. US Rowing age handicap standards will be used.

Medals will be awarded at the HQ when results are official. Results will be available on-line.

Race officials - OMS is once again being officiated by a group of experienced local coaches who know well what it takes to have a safe/fair race for everyone. Please give our officials your full cooperation to ensure a smooth/enjoyable competition for all. The 1000 meter course installed and maintained by the VASRA is fully buoyed and should allow very fair racing IF people stay in their assigned lanes.  Lodge any protests with the referee at the finish line.
