September 14, 2024 is the date of the Inaugural Langley Pond 5 K Small Boat Regatta. This event is designed for singles, doubles and pairs on a 5,000 meter course, laid our over the regular Langley Pond 8 lane 2K course. It involves a 200 meter chute to the start line, a 1550 meter run in lanes 7 and 8 to the first turn, to port, and into the middle lanes, 4 and 5, for a 1600 meter run the the second turn, to starboard, into lanes 1 and 2, then an 1850 run to the finish.
Each run is marked by lane buoys. Each Run is an open 2 lane stretch of water. Please be sure to look at the course traffic pattern map which shows race day warm up area and approach to the staging area for entering the start chute. The chute is marked in orange with two distinct lanes-odd boy numbers in lane 7, even bow numbers in lane 8. Those chute lanes are maintained for the first 300m, then it is open two lane wide racing water.
Start is designed to alternate odd/even with at least 10 seconds between starts and 20 seconds between shells in each lane.
Paddling into the chute is between lane line support pilings so no power rowing until shells enter the orange zone.
At the Finish, the last 250 meters are marked with red buoys. Upon crossing the finish, move to port to fall into return pattern back to docks.
Upon returning, pay attention to safety marking buoys and directional buoy lines. Approaching the 1200m mark returning, follow marshall instructions. You may be instructed to stop until racing boats clear that area.( it is a little tight passage at that location.)
