Race Day

Coach / Coxswain Meetings
There will be a coach / coxswain safety meeting one and a half (1.5) hours before racing commences each day. All other communication will be done through a Whatsapp to ensure clarity and timeliness of message.

Weigh-In Notes

  • Weigh-ins will happen every morning between 7 and 9 am.
  • All athletes are expected to produce ID at weigh in- student ID will suffice
  • Where possible/necessary, athletes will be prioritized by event order on the day of racing.
  • Crews are expected to weigh in as a complete crew (ie. coxed four includes four athletes and coxie weighing in at same time)
  • A coach must accompany each lightweight crew and/or coxswain during the weigh-in procedure.
  • If a crew does not make weight, they may race but will be treated as exhibition.
  • Teams that bus in from local schools will be given special consideration but must weigh in all athletes at once upon arrival, and must communicate this request in advance.

Time Trials
Regatta organizers will reserve the right to use Time Trials to help keep the event on schedule.  Please enter all small boats (ie. singles and pairs )with the idea that there could be conflict in mind.

Hot Seating - Report Departure
Umpires will release a bow number in the appropriate situation where hot seats are needed.  The expectation is that when the bow marker is switched, that the old bow marker be returned to control commission and the time that the crew left the dock be reported to the umpire at control commission.  This enhances safety in case of emergency as it enhances knowledge of who is on the water during an emergency.

Trailer Parking
Please notify us of your estimated arrival time to allow us to meet you and help to park your trailer safely. Please do not park on the lower grassy plain as the water table is low and you will get your trailer stuck. Should you get your trailer stuck, extraction and grass repair are at your clubs cost. Please email [email protected] to let him know your time of arrival on the day of.

Registration Packages
As the draw is now electronic, we will move to a paperless event. Training and Racing maps will be posted beside the boathouse on way to launch.

Training Flow Pattern
All Elk Lake regattas follow the same training flow pattern once the course is in and open. Lane one (1) is closest to the Patricia Bay Highway and lane six is closest to the boathouse and docks. Crews will use lanes six (6) and five (5) to row to the start line. Lanes four (4) and three (3) are neutral for safety boats. Lanes one (1)and , two (2) row to the finish line. Please consult maps posted on side of boathouse. Please read the signage at the top of the dock to determine whether the training course is open.

Racing Flow Pattern
The Racing Flow Pattern is posted on the notice board for all Elk Lake regattas. All crews will launch from the docks insuring that they avoid the submerged stumps marked by the orange buoys just off the dock. They will head for the warmup flow pattern which is marked by two (2) large West Marine buoys around which they will row in a clock wise fashion. Racing then proceeds down the lanes under umpire direction.

Rules and Logistics

Equipment
All boats must be fitted with heel tie-downs. Proper bow balls and a bow clip are required on all shells. Recently implemented as a rule is the requirement for a "single hand release of shoe closures" to ensure that feet can be pulled free from their shoes in case of flipping. All equipment will be checked by Control Commission and must be deemed acceptable before launching.

Rules of Racing
Rowing Canada Rules of racing shall apply.

Uniforms
It is expected that members of any one club will have matching uniforms as per the rules of racing. Should weather conditions pose a problem these rules will be relaxed where logical after consultation with the chief umpire.

Medical Services
First Aid will be provided on site for all competitors. For serious medical cases we will dial 911.
