In 2022 the Regatta was moved from its usual spring date to the fall in order to facilitate the resumption of racing after the Covid interruption. The 2022 regatta was a success and after consultations with numerous competitors and coaches, the decision was made by Ridley Graduate Boat Club (RGBC) to continue to hold this regatta in the fall. It was also decided to use one distance of approximately 5km for all of the listed events (eliminating the one lap/two lap historical distance). This makes the regatta more suitable for Fall Head racing calendar.

 RGBC is also adding a second race this year, called the Head of the Martindale Long Distance Coastal Solo Race. Rowing Clubs that have coastal type racing singles will have the opportunity to enter their competitors over a shorter 4km course.  This race will feature a MASS start of all Coastal entries at the 1000m line infront of the island. This exciting race will then follow the same course around the island and finish at the 1000m line.
