Entry Restrictions:

• The regatta is Masters only: all rowers must be 21 years of age or older in the current calendar year. Exceptions: Coxswains and rowers in the parent/child 2x’s do not need to be masters age.
• A competitor may represent only one club.
• Composite crews are allowed but will not be awarded team points.
• Please respect a 30-minute minimum between races. Races will not be delayed for hotseating.

Waivers & USRowing Membership Requirements:

All rowers and coxswains must have a current signed USRowing waiver for an entry to be considered complete.

DSMR is a USRowing sanctioned regatta. All competing clubs must be USRowing organizational members. Unaffiliated rowers must hold a “championship level” individual membership. All competitors, including coxswains and children in parent/child events, must have a current USRowing waiver on file.

Waitlist:

Each event has an entry cap. Once the cap has been reached, entries will be placed on the waitlist. After the entry deadline, the Race Director may accept waitlist entries. Waitlisted entries made before the entry deadline but accepted after the deadline will not be subject to the $10 late entry fee. Only accepted entries will incur entry charges.

Refunds:

After the entry deadline, there will be no refunds of entry fees for accepted boats. Unfortunately, we cannot give refunds for events canceled or delayed due to weather or other unforeseeable events. The regatta organizers will make every effort to run races on time. Inclement weather or other events beyond the control of the Regatta, however, may delay or require the cancellation of some events. Due to our overhead, we cannot give refunds for cancelled events. We value the safety and health of competitors above all other considerations and appreciate your understanding.

Regatta Rules

Diamond States Masters Regatta® follows USRowing’s most current Rules of Rowing. All rowers, coxswains, and coaches should be familiar with these rules.

Age Categories & Handicaps:

Diamond States Masters Regatta follows USRowing’s Age Classification and calculates and accords handicaps (if necessary) by its rules.

Rule 4-104.1 (d): A Master is a competitor who has attained or will attain the age of 21 during the current calendar year. A competitor’s age is determined as of December 31 of the current calendar year, rounded down to the nearest whole number. A competitor thus becomes a Master on January 1 of the year of his or her 21st birthday. A Masters crew shall be comprised exclusively of Masters rowers, but the coxswain need not be a Master. (1): Masters crews shall be classified by age according to the following categories: (AA) 21 to 26 years, (A) 27 to 35 years, (B) 36 to 42 years, (C) 43 to 49 years, (D) 50 to 54 years, (E) 55 to 59 years, (F) 60 to 64 years, (G) 65 to 69 years, (H) 70 to 74 years, (I) 75 to 80 years, (J) 80 and over. (2) The age category of a Masters crew shall be determined by the average age of the rowers in the crew, rounded down to the nearest whole number. The age of a coxswain shall not be counted. The ages of individual rowers need not fall within the age category, so long as each rower is a Master and so long as the average age of the crew falls within in the applicable category. (3) A Masters crew may compete in a lower (younger) age category, but not in a higher category.

Lightweight Events:

Rule 4-104.3 (a): A men’s lightweight crew, including a single scull (1x), shall have no rower who weighs more than 160 lbs. …. (b) A women’s lightweight crew, including a single scull (1x), shall have no rower who weighs more than 130 lbs.

Lightweight Weigh-Ins will open two hours before the start of the first Lightweight Event of the day.

In 2022: Saturday Hours: 6:30-9:30AM and Midday hours TBA; Sunday Hours 8-10:30AM

Competitors need only weigh in once but must display proof of weight before launching for any lightweight events.

Coxswains:

DSMR does not weigh coxswains. Coxswains do not need to be masters age. 

Novice Events:

At DSMR, a rower competing as a “novice” should be new to sweep rowing or sculling in the past 12 months. However, for safety, the coxswain in a novice event at DSMR must be experienced.

Raising an Objection:

Rule 2-605 (a):  An objection involving the conduct of a Race shall be lodged by the Crew at the finish while it is still on the water and before the Referee declares the Race to be official, unless circumstances beyond its control prevent if from doing so. A Coach or other team member may not lodge such a protest on behalf of a Crew. ….

Rule 2-605 (b): A crew wishing to lodge an objection shall signal to the Referee immediately after finishing the Race by having a member of the Crew raise his or her hand until the attention of the Referee has been gained. ….

2-606 (a):  Once an objection is lodged, a Crew wishing to be heard before the Jury shall submit a concise written statement, describing the facts that underlie the objection and the relief that the Crew seeks, to the Chief Judge… within one hour after it reaches land. The written statement shall comprise the protest statement. The statement shall be accompanied by cash or check payable to the local organizing committee in the amount of $50. A protest in which such a statement is not filed shall not be heard.
