Classifications

Junior Events:

A competitor who in the current calendar year does not attain the age of 19, or who is currently, and has been continuously, enrolled in secondary school as a full-time student seeking a diploma.

  • Varsity - Competitors are all currently enrolled in a high school or secondary school
  • JV -  Competitors are enrolled as high school juniors or lower, OR if all 3 of the following conditions are met:
    1. A team may enter a JV team boat that includes seniors, if those teams have also entered a Varsity boat in the corresponding event.
    2. No more than half of any JV boat lineup can be comprised of seniors (not including the coxswain)
    3. It is understood that the Varsity boat entered is faster than the JV entry.
  • Freshman/Novice - Competitors must be in their first season of competitive rowing or in grade 9 or lower

 

Dual Style Racing

  • The Buffalo River is a relatively narrow waterway. Races will primarily run with two lanes, and a third lane will only be added when necessary. 
  • Please review Buffalo River Sprints Boat Progression to view example boat progressions for various race scenerious
  • We intend to time each race, but progression at this regatta is based on finish POSITION not time.

 

Entry/athlete caps

  • All events are capped at 8 boats
  • Each organization may enter a maximum of 2 boats in each event, but may add more entries to the waitlist
    • Waitlisted boats will be reviewed and accepted in events that are not full
  • Athletes are limited to participating in only 2 events
