This video is a fly over of the entire loop each boat will take during the Head of the Head of the Ohio Regatta.
Launching: All boats will launch from either the TRRA Washington's Landing Campus or the TRRA Millvale Campus. Boats will launch with the bows facing upstream and exit out the top of the Back Channel. Boats should proceed through the 40th St Bridge. Marshalls will be in launches to guide and direct all boats.
Warm-Up Loop: Boats will be instructed by on-water Marshall's when to safely cross the river and enter the Warm-up loop.
Marshalling Area (Yellow Zone): All boats in the Marshalling Area should get in order by bow number and be ready to race when called by the Starting Official.
The Chute (Green Zone): The Starting Official will call all boats into the Chute by bow number. All boats should build to race pace and race pressure in the chute. NOTE: There is no stoping or passing in the Chute. Any boat that stops or passes another boat will be penalized.
Starting Line: The Starting line is marked by a "can" tower on the island (starboard) side of the river. The Starting Official is located on the top of the tower and will make a verbal call when crews enter the race course.
Race Course: The HOTO Course proceeds downstream on the Allegheny River. There will be a series of orange buoys down the course. All boats must stay to the port side of buoys for the entire race. All boats should proceed through the center arch of all bridges while racing and stay left (starboard) side of center of the river.
The Finish Line: The Finish line is located just upstream of the Fort Duquesne Bridge. All boats will be best served to race to the bridge. The Finish Line Official will be located on land on the Pittsburgh (port) side of the course. A horn will be used to notify each crew when they have crossed the finish line.
Cool-Down/Return Route: Once a boat passes through the Fort Duquesne Bridge, a race Marshall will instruct all boats to turn toward the North Shore (starboard), safely cross the river, then turn to starboard again to head upstream. All boats must proceed back upstream ensuring that they remain off of the race course at all time. Once boat pass through the 3-sister bridges, they should move to the North Shore and continue upstream through the left most archway of the remaining bridges.
A Marshall will be located at the entrance to the Back Channel and will instruct all boats when to safely enter the Back Channel. Once in the Back Channel, all boats should proceed single file to the landing dock at the appropriate TRRA Campus.
