Iowa Games

- Gray's Lake
- Des Moines, IA (USA)
- Hosted By: University of Iowa Recreational Services
- 2021 Registered Regatta
The racing this year has moved to the Des Moines River due to low waters at Gray's Lake. We will be doing "Mini Head Race 1k's", or Time Trials. Each event will award the Top 3 fastest times with medals. So, if multiple flights need to occur to accomodate equipment, all medals will be held until results are finalized for that particular event.
The Iowa Games for Rowing has been growing rapidly. Participation in the Games went from 30 participants in 2013 to 120 participants in 2017. In 2018 we had 160+ athletes. Our ongoing goal is to embrace and support the growth of rowing in Iowa.
The event is funded by the Iowa Sports Foundation, and supported and run by local Iowa Rowing programs. Each program in the state takes a turn as a Host Site. Des Moines Rowing along with UI Recreational Services Rowing program has taken over all administrative and day of running of the event for the next two years.
The event is also a USRowing Sanctioned event, using third party insurance (Iowa Sports Foundation)). The registration fee covers USRowing referees, and allows them to officiate the event when the host organization is a member of USRowing.
Des Moines Rowing is looking forward to hosting the State Games of America in 2022 at the newly renovated Easter Lake in SE Des Moines. We anticipate rowes from across the country to attend this bi-annual event. Additional information will be forthcoming.
