Atomic City Turn & Burn
- Hosted By: Oak Ridge Rowing Association, Inc.
WELCOME TO OAK RIDGE ROWING ASSOCIATION
This year's Atomic City Turn & Burn will be the second annual event for The Oak Ridge Rowing Association. The Melton Lake venue provides two completely different routes for the Head Race, and can be easily adjusted to several different lengths. For 2017, ORRA will provide a race course that departs from Gibbs Ferry Park, and gently twists and turns in the first 3000m before passing beneath an active train bridge, and turning in to the sprint course for the final 1500m. See the Venue Tab for substantial detail about the embayment, launch and recovery areas in the embayment, the route to the head race Start, and landmarks that can assist crews.
In the afternoon, the event will switch to a 2000m race on Oak Ridge Rowing Association's well known race course. With flat water and no wind, the race course allows for spectators to view the majority of the race and rowers to compete on an even playing field.
The Oak Ridge Rowing Association was founded in 1978 with a mission to promote the sport of rowing in Oak Ridge and East Tennessee. Now in its 36th year of service, the ORRA is home to the Atomic Juniors and Masters Rowing Teams, offers a wide array of Learn-To-Row classes, and is host to several Championship Rowing Regattas, Spring Training and Summer High Performance and Development Camps.
