The Head of the Merrimack is a 4 mile head race beginning 2 miles upriver from the Essex docks and finishing at Riverside Park in Methuen.  The Head of the Merrimack attracts rowers of all ages and skill levels and is run entirely by Essex Rowing staff and volunteers.  Essex Rowing's goal by hosting this regatta is to expand the local fall racing circuit while bringing awareness to rowing on the Merrimack River to Methuen and its surrounding communities.  In 2009 we hosted our first event and within the next 5 years we hope to build the race into a major regatta in the region.
