POTENTIAL "DAY OF" ROLES INCLUDE:
· Control Commission: checking for heel ties and bow balls on competitors boats, checking boats off for launching.
· On water traffic control: in a safety boat as a driver (pleasure craft operator card required) or marshal, ensuring people are safe and in the right place.
· On land traffic control: watching the interaction between boats, people, look-y-loos, tourists, dogs, cars, trucks, paddlers, and trailers is harmonious.
· Volunteer maintenance: making sure that volunteers and umpires are well fed, not freezing, and have what they need, working with the St John Ambulance volunteer people.
· Finish duties: timing and results.
· Registration: making sure that entries are paid for, that clubs have their bow numbers, that participants all receive their swag (umbrellas, food coupons).
· First Aid: helping identify competitors to the St John Ambulance first responders – watching people as they come off the water in particular
· Photographers: it’s always good to have lots of digital pictures…
· Announcer: keeping the launching of the boats on time so we stay on time
· Picking up litter and recycling, cleaning up the site
ROLES/HELP NEEDED IN ADVANCE OF THE REGATTA:
· Putting up signage around the course prior to the event at marinas, docks and elsewhere (2 weeks prior - 1 month in advance at the Welcome Boating Center)
· Putting up signage for trailers approaching the site at Burrard, Chestnut and Cornwall (day before the regatta)
· Put up signage in the parking area in advance of the event (1 week prior)
· Meeting with (or contacting) the ferry boat operators (2 weeks prior)
· Ensuring the site is ready for the event the following day: if possible, seeing if there is water connections to wash off equipment
