This year marks the 29th annual regatta - an early Spring competition. This event, a traditional sprint race, began in 1984 and quickly grew to national & international prominence. This event began with 13 teams and grew to over 30 in just two years with crews from such prestigious schools as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Dartmouth. In1986, the famed"Oxford Blues" participated in their first "Invitational". Since then, teams from France, Bulgaria, the Soviet Union, Japan, Canada and Germany have competed. Rowers converge on this area each spring to test their skills. In 1997,we moved the venue from the Savannah River in Augusta to Langley Pond in nearby Aiken County, SC. Langley Pond offers an ideal still water, fully-buoyed course that has been used by US Rowing for National Team Training, as well as Trials and Speed Orders. We are looking forward to another great Augusta Invitational Regatta this year.
