A head race is a time-trial competition in the sport of rowing, also known as crew. Head races are typically held in the fall seasons. In this form of racing, rowers race against the clock where the crew or rower completing the course in the shortest time in their age, ability and boat-class category is deemed the winner. The length of head races are usually between 2 to 3.7 miles. The most famous head race in the US is the Head of the Charles held each October on the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Gator Head race will be held again this year on Newnan?s Lake 7300 E University, Gainesville, Florida. The course is about 3.5 miles long. Last year 10 crew teams from all over Florida competed for the Gator Head Trophy. This year the Gator Head regatta will be held on October 23 & 24. Youth events will be held on Saturday, October 23, master?s events will be held on Sunday October 24.
