1st Bridge: Mill Ave use the right hand most arch. Continue through the next three bridges using the first or second arch.
This puts you at the West End buoy line and you will swing around to the other side of the lake to get lined up.
Start: (Heading East)The start are the two big orange buoys you will pass through. You MUST pass through the second arch from the right on the first two bridges of the race course (Mill Ave). Once through those first two bridges, crews should move to the right hand side of the lake.
Rural Road Bridge: (heading east) Use the first two arches from the right. Once through the Rural Road Bridge crews should move to the right hand side of the lake in order to set themselves up for the Big Turn.
Big Turn: The best approach to the turn is to be fairly close to the shore so you are in position for a smooth swing around the turn. Once you come out of the turn you should be pointed at the first arch on Rural Road Bridge.
Rural Road (heading west): Use the first two arches from the right. Once through the bridge pick up the small red buoys and keep them off your starboard oars. Coxed boats look at the Mill Ave Bridge and pick out the Big #1 and aim for that. It will bring you right to the center of the finish line.
2) Returning to Dock: Crews going to Boat Beach proceed through the bridge at the finish and work toward boat beach watching for boats in the warm up area going to the start. Crews returning to the Marina should go through the finish line bridge and turn between the bridges and head back to the marina keeping the yellow buoys on the cox'ns left (port side).
3) Passing: A crew that is being overtaken by another crew must move to the right (starboard) – passing another crew is to the left (port).
4) No Passing Zone: There is a No Passing Zone which starts 25 meters before bridges in both directions. No crews/scullers are allowed to pass while in the NO Passing Zone. Once you are clear of the bridge there are no restrictions.
5) East End Turn: (8 total buoys) Crews cutting inside the buoys may gain an advantage and may create an unsafe condition.
* A crew rowing to the left (port) of a buoy will be penalized 30 seconds for each buoy missed.
* Rowing inside 4 or more of the buoys will result in disqualification of the crew.
6) Traffic Pattern Violations: Any crew rowing against the flow of the official traffic pattern will be disqualified.
7) Novice Category: Novice rowers cannot have participated in any type of rowing or sculling before June 1, 2011. Experience as a coxswain does not count as time rowing/sculling.
8) Masters Category: US Rowing's Masters Age Categories will be followed and handicap will be based on boat age average excluding the coxswain. All participants in a Masters boat must be at least 21 years of age.
9) Awards: Medals will be awarded to all first place finishers.
