DIRECTIONS TO THE HEAD OF THE DES MOINES REGATTA SITE (1500 Prospect Road; Des Moines, IA)
Two recommended routes to the site are described here. Take I-235 to:
Sixth Avenue. Exit North from I-235 {Use the Downtown and Iowa Event Center Exit from either direction}; go north on 6th Avenue up to the Bridge over the Des Moines River; In front of the bridge, turn Left (west) on to Hickman Ave. (Do not cross the bridge); Proceed approx. 1/3 Mi. to the bottom of the hill and turn right (northwest) on to Prospect Road leading into Prospect Park. Trailer parking on the right.
Martin Luther King (MLK) Blvd. Exit heading north on MLK from I-235, go north to Hickman Road (about 2 mi.), Turn Right (east) and go approx. 1/2 mi. to Prospect Road (at the bottom of the hill), turn left (northwest) to Prospect Park. Trailer parking on the right.
LOW BRIDGE ON 2ND AVENUE coming from the North (I-80)! If you are taking I-80, please note that the train bridge that crosses over 2ndAvenuejust south of I-80 is low and competitors in the past have had to let air out of tires to safely take boats under the bridge. AVOID THIS ROUTE. Instead, consider East 14th (Hwy 69) to Euclid Ave., head west on Euclid to Martin Luther King then South on Martin Luther King to Prospect Road.
