Dear all, 

We regret to inform you that we must cancel the Head of the Colorado for 2022.  As the LOC that plans the regatta, our objective is always to provide a high-quality racing experience.  That experience starts with a quality and safe racecourse.  Right now, our waterway will not support a quality and safe racecourse.  Our waterway is bogged down with native aquatic plants called Cabomba.  For your reference, we’ve attached a picture below.  The plants are everywhere and are causing significant challenges to the safety of our teams practicing.  The flow rate is down to 10% of normal because the lakes upstream from us are down about 2 feet.  We’d need significant amounts of rain to resupply the lakes above us, some high flow rates to clear the plants and carry it down stream, and enough time to return the flow to normal to provide a safe and quality racecourse.  

We are deeply sorry to bring you this news but believe that it is the correct course of action as we do not think our racecourse will be safe for your athletes.  We hope you will keep us on your schedules for next year.   Head of the Colorado 2023 is now scheduled for SUNDAY, October 29th, 2023.  This change has been made to mitigate the overlap of racing and recreational traffic that Lady Bird Lake is experiencing.
