EVENT DESCRIPTION

This is a marathon of a race. The course record is 1 hour and 57 minutes, while there are plenty of vessels finishing in around 3.5 hours.  This year’s race should be a bit faster as we will be rowing / paddling with the current. Due to potentially difficult conditions and the length of the race only experienced crews OVER 18 years of age are invited to compete. There will be chase boats along the course however crews will largely be on their own and safety will depend on the safe, orderly, and sportsmanlike conduct of all participants. This year’s course will start at the Nyack Marina (Nyack NY) and run south to the Englewood Boat Basin in Englewood NJ. Following the race there will be food, drinks and an awards ceremony. Competitors, spectators, friends and family are all welcome to join in the after-race celebration.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE is September 1, 11:59 PM; late registration is open until September 5^th, 11:59 PM. Registration is possible on site but please let us know if you are coming by emailing Leslie Horn at [email protected].

WAIVERS

All competitors must sign a paper waiver before racing.  You can download the waiver form from the Regatta Central website and forms will also be available at the registration table. Please send a representative to the registration table as soon as you arrive at the launch area.

PAYMENT

The registration fee is $40 per person - $40 for a single, $80 for a double, $160 for a 4 person boat, $240 for a 6 person boat and $320 for an 8 person boat. Advance payment is preferred - please send checks to RRA 25K, Box 7, Nyack, New York, 10960. Payment can be made the day of the event at the Registration table, but it is a lot easier if done in advance.   

START LINE PARKING

The start line is located at Nyack Marina.  Follow directions to 11 Burd St, Nyack, NY.  For trailers and car-tops needing to park on Friday night, there will be overnight parking available.  Please contact Leslie Horn at 845-558-5519 to make arrangements in advance. As parking will be limited in the Marina lot and its environs on race day it is best to have someone bring your car to the finish area where parking is unlimited and free.  If you need to leave your car at the start line, volunteers will be on site in the morning to direct participants to spaces that can be used.  Street parking is also available, but please read the signs.

TIMING

On-site registration opens at 5:45am. The pre-race meeting is at 6:15 AM. Launching will begin at 7:00 AM by size of craft.  This schedule is subject to change.

7:00 AM               All Kayaks followed by singles

7:15 AM               Doubles, 2 person vessels

7:30 AM               Quads, 4 person vessels

7:45 AM               6 person vessels

8:00 AM               8+ and 8x

A representative from each vessel must attend the 6:15 AM pre-race meeting. The meeting will cover critical course elements including time limits (there is a five hour time limit to complete the race) and obstacles, safety instructions, and much more. So please attend!

Your start time on the course will begin when your vessel clears the launch dock.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Each boat must carry a cell phone in waterproof case (ziplock bag is sufficient), a bailing device, and a whistle. PFDs for each crew  member  are recommended but optional. Please input the Safety Directors cell phone number in your on-board cell phone. Ron Linhart at 845-548-3273.  In case of an emergency, please call 911.

FINISH LINE PARKING

The finish line is located at the North end of the Englewood Boat Basin, Englewood, NJ. [Palisades Interstate Park]. Trailers arriving at the Boat Basin must use the Southern entrance of the park and cars may use the North or South entrances. A map to the finish line parking area will be available at the Registration table.
