The New Bedford Chase, a 3-mile head race around New Bedford Harbor, is last year’s New Bedford Pope’s Island Regatta – enhanced with a redesigned course and more and larger markers, retaining the same fun bridges and working waterfront!
Eights, fours, doubles, pairs, singles . . . youth, open, masters . . . All are invited.
We can’t promise that last spring’s whale will return to the Harbor for the occasion, but you’ll launch from an island marina and race through two bridges, around two islands, and along a vibrant working waterfront.
For masters rowers, there’s a bonus: The South Coast Business Alliance is holding its annual Oktoberfest just up the street at Custom House Square in New Bedford’s cobblestoned Historic District. As the last boat comes off the course, the kegs will have already been tapped. It’s a fun event, with net proceeds to benefit local charities. Plus, participants in the New Bedford Chase get $5 off admission!
Want to stay the night and explore New Bedford? A limited number of rooms are available at the waterfront Fairfield Inn at a discounted rate. For more information, call the Inn at 774-634-2000 and tell them that you are a race participant.
